judge oks killing sea lions
judge oks killing sea lions, A federal judge turned down a request to halt the killing of California sea lions at Bonneville Dam, clearing the way for wildlife officials to remove up to 30 animals this year.
The Humane Society of the United States had asked for a temporary restraining order while it proceeds with a lawsuit against the practice. Wildlife officials, intending to reduce sea lions' consumption of salmon and steelhead, have trapped and removed 38 sea lions since 2008. They've killed 28 and shipped the other 10 to zoos and aquariums. The killings are controversial, however, and the legal fight is continuing.

erika van pelt idol
erika van pelt idol, American Idol's Erika Van Pelt: "I Never Had My Moment"Season 11 of American Idol has become all about the moments that make a contestant stand out from the crowd. As the judges have awarded select Idol hopefuls with standing ovations, Jennifer Lopez has become the show's authority on whether or not a performance was "a moment" or not.
For eliminated contestant Erika Van Pelt, not giving Lopez "gooseys" over the past few weeks felt like a determining factor as she faced the end of her run. "I never had my moment," she told reporters after the show. "I knew I would be in the bottom three. I would've had to have had a super-standout crazy performance to get saved by the voters and I didn't. It was a good performance, but sometimes America needs to see that standing ovation from the judges."

stella mccartney fashion
Stella McCartney: from the catwalk to the racetrack, it's an Olympic year
The fashion designer is about to unveil her official London 2012 kit for Team GB – how has she managed to make the McCartney name her own? The first piece of clothing Stella McCartney made, aged 12, was a bomber jacket – and you could say everything else she has made since has been cut from the same cloth. It was dusky pink, a colour that has featured strongly in her adult collections, and was made in fake suede, which shows her early pledge not to use animal skins. The combination of sporty and masculine elements, given a feminine finish couldn't sum up McCartney's style more perfectly. Who knows where it is now? Perhaps forgotten in a trunk somewhere on her father's Sussex estate, to be brought out one day as the cornerstone in a retrospective.

Jason smith blake grffin
ppers-Hornets game Thursday night had fans stand to their feet, clapping vibrantly for sending Griffin sprawling to the floor.
"I think it looked a lot worse than what it was, but that's still not a play that you ever want to do to another player like that," Smith told reporters immediately following the game. "I apologize to Blake Griffin. I didn't want to hurt him at all."
Immediately after Smith threw Griffin's 6-foot-10, 250-pound body to the court floor, he threw his hands up to convince the referee he did no wrong. The ploy failed, though— the center was ejected from the game for his efforts.
While Griffin laid still on the floor, what was more surprising was the instant effect Hornet's fans had: nearly all of them were on their feet, giving a standing ovation for the rough play.
Despite the unsportsmanlike behavior, which Smith still says was "to try to cut off [Griffin's] lane to the basket," the Clippers star still performed decently. Blake Griffin scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds, although he did seem a bit rattled with only 7 of 19 shots scoring.
